In a mythical land of the old Celts, a father, a daughter and a son live together in a lonely lighthouse. The life of the whole family is turned upside down when it is revealed that the daughter is the last of the selkies – mythical creatures resembling seals in water and humans on land. Only she can, through a song, save all the fairy creatures that have been turned into stone by the witch named Macha. This beautifully animated world of Celtic myths and optimistic tales about the strength of family love is what brought the young director comparisons to the most prominent masters of animated film. – Song of the Sea premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 6, 2014. In 2015 it was nominated for an Oscar for best animated feature and won the European Film Award in the same category.
